Enrollment

You are eligible, but not required to be enrolled.

MIT Sloan Visiting Fellows participate in a non-degree course of study for students, professionals, and MIT alumni.

If you are an MIT Sloan Visiting Fellow and you want MIT SHIP, you must affirmatively enroll in coverage. You will not be automatically enrolled, and you will not be required to demonstrate comparable health insurance coverage. The MIT Registrar's Office determines whether an individual is an MIT Sloan Visiting Fellow for the purposes of health insurance eligibility.

You will be automatically enrolled

Visiting students who are Registered in Course NIV; and are not included in any other student categories as described in Section 1.0, including students who have withdrawn or are on leave, will be automatically enrolled in the MIT Student Health Insurance Plan, with the exception of visiting students who are actively enrolled in and insured by a higher educational institution in Massachusetts. MIT Registrar’s Office and the International Scholar Office are the sole sources of data for visiting students.

MIT Executive MBA students are enrolled in the MIT Executive Master’s in Business Administration program at the Sloan School.

If you are enrolled in the MIT Executive MBA program and you want MIT SHIP, you must affirmatively enroll in coverage. You will not be automatically enrolled, and you will not be required to demonstrate comparable health insurance coverage. The MIT Registrar's Office determines whether an individual is a Sloan Executive MBA student for the purposes of health insurance eligibility.

• Other MIT-affiliated individuals* and their family members, may be eligible for MIT SHIP dependent on their specific appointment details.
  Titles that may be eligible include:
  • Postdoctoral Fellows
  • Senior Postdoctoral Fellows
  • Research Fellows
  • Senior Research Fellows

*You must have an MIT appointment (at least 50% time) for a minimum of three months. Contact your DLCI administrator to verify your eligibility.
